The Kansas Humanities Council creates, sponsors, and promotes humanities programs across Kansas. Through the humanities — history, literature, philosophy, and related areas — we gain understanding of where we've been, who we are, and what we've valued over time and across generations.

In the late 1860s, my great-grandfather, an orphan from Ireland, arrives in Kansas to work for the Union Pacific. He falls in love, marries, buys land, and moves his family to Jefferson County - eventually trading in the rail yards for potato fields. Patrick's obituary in 1919 describes him as a "Kansas pioneer" and he's part of my Kansas story.  What's yours?

The Kansans Tell Their Stories initiative encourages Kansans to think about what it means to be a Kansan.  We invite you to share a story from your past -  a story about traditions, customs, community spirit - that helps us to understand where we've been and offer insight into where we might be headed.

Tell your Kansas Story here.
