The Kansas Humanities Council creates, sponsors, and promotes humanities programs across Kansas. Through the humanities — history, literature, philosophy, and related areas — we gain understanding of where we've been, who we are, and what we've valued over time and across generations.

In the 1946 film Enamorada (Woman in Love), a general falls in love with a beautiful young woman in the peaceful town of Cholula during the Mexican Revolution. The problem? The general's troops have to come to Cholula to seize the property of the rich, and the young woman's father is the town's wealthiest citizen. Treasured as one of the jewels of Mexican cinema, Enamorada is featured as part of XIX - Latin American Cinema Festival of Kansas City. The festival, presented by Sociedad Hidalgo, takes place on Saturdays, September 4 - October 2, at the Rio Theatre in Overland Park.
Contemporary and classic films from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Chile offer insight into Latin American culture, customs, and traditions. Bilingual discussions in English and Spanish follow each screening. Click here for a complete list of films.
XIX - Latin American Cinema Festival of Kansas City is supported by a KHC Humanities grant.
