Brooksfest: A Gwendolyn Brooks Celebration

Topeka will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Topeka-native Gwendolyn Brooks, the first African-American Pulitzer Prize-winner. Brooksfest: A Gwendolyn Brooks Centennial Celebration will include Topekans reading or reciting poems by Gwendolyn Brooks and a keynote presentation by Kevin Young, a native Topekan and one of the most celebrated living American poets. Other featured presenters will be journalist Elizabeth Farnsworth, a correspondent and sometime anchor for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and Linda Spalding, the Griffin Prize-winning novelist.
