In summer 2017, the Spencer Museum of Art will offer Kansans the opportunity to explore 400 years of African American history through the female-dominated medium of story quilts. The Spencer will host the nationally touring exhibition And Still We Rise: Race, Culture, and Visual Conversations and organize a complementary exhibition, Narratives of the Soul, featuring story quilts from the Spencer's collection and loans from regional African American quilt artists.
